Anitra Bunn was born and raised in Philadelphia in June of 1984. She began writing as a little girl, recreating Tom & Jerry cartoon stories, so she would get her desired results- Tom finally getting Jerry.

After using her creative writing skills in grade school to generate buzz around her name through her poetry, short stories, and her first novel that she wrote at the age of 15, people began to become familiar with her work. In 2001, just shy of turning 17, Anitra was invited to Power 99FM to recite her popular poem, "Why Tyrone Can't Read?" which gave her more recognition. She self-published her first novel under the pen-name, "The Author Yani" in 2012, and was featured in Yo! Raps Magazine. She would later go on to be a featured author at the Harlem Book Festival and the Houston Black Book Festival in 2013.
After a brief hiatus, Anitra is returning with new stories, revamped novels, and a stronger passion for story telling than she has ever had before.
